RIM BlackBerry 10 launch

Research in Motion (RIM) launched its new mobile operating system, BlackBerry 10, on 30 January. We were at the event in London so here's how it happened. See also: BlackBerry Z10 review and BlackBerry 10 review.

RIM will be making what many are calling its last throw of the dice with the launch of BlackBerry 10, or BB10. The struggling Canadian smartphone maker will launch is new operating system today January after many delays.

RIM said: "BlackBerry 10 is being crafted to provide a compelling user experience that is intuitive and extremely responsive, allowing you to instinctively increase your productivity and to stay ultimately connected to all aspects of your life."

It is expected that RIM will launch at least a couple of new handsets to show off BB10. At the moment they are known as the Z10 and X10. The former will be a full touchscreen device while the latter retains RIM's infamous physical Qwerty keyboard. See also: RIM hints at two BlackBerry 10 phones launching in early February.

There have also been hints that a new tablet to follow-up the PlayBook will arrive since BB10 is designed for both smartphones and tablets. BlackBerry 10 will come with new features such as the Message Hub, new keyboard and the redesigned BlackBerry World for apps.

In the interest of healthy competition and consumer choice, we hope RIM has got something which can take on the likes of iOS and Android with BlackBerry 10. We're keen to find out so why not join us on Wednesday for the BB launch live.
