Windows Phone 7.8 launching this month

O2 announces Windows Phone 7.8 launching

Microsoft Windows Phone 7.8

Microsoft's Windows Phone 7.8 operating system will launch by the end of the month.

The update for existing Windows Phone 7 and 7.5 users will arrive by the end of January. The news comes courtesy of mobile operator O2 which announced it on Twitter in reply to a customer's question on the subject.

The news comes prior to an official word from Microsoft itself or Windows Phone 8 smartphone makers such as Nokia and HTC. O2 stocks Windows Phone 7 devices such as the Nokia Lumia 800.

Furthermore, the Windows Phone Colombia Facebook page said the update would be rolling out from 31 January for 'some terminals'.

Microsoft came up with Windows Phone 7.8 because older handsets would be unable to run the newer Windows Phone 8. The cut down OS will include features like the new Start Screen and lock screen features.

Windows Phone 8 launched last year at the end of October with version 7.8 due to arrive 'shortly afterwards'. There has been no confession on why there has been a delay.
