Google Nexus 4 successor to arrive at MWC?

LG stops Nexus 4 production for next Nexus smartphone

A sequel to the Google Nexus 4 smartphone made by LG could arrive at next month's MWC.

If you've been frustrated at the lack of Nexus 4 stock then you might be in luck. LG has supposedly stopped production of the Google Nexus 4 smartphone to make way for upcoming handsets, according to International Business Times. See also: Google apologises for Nexus 4 stock shortages.

The firm could reveal the Nexus 4's successor next month at Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona, possibly the Nexus 5. See also: Best place to buy Nexus 4

After deciding not to announce any new smartphones at CES 2013, LG hinted that the Nexus 4 was the 'first of many' Nexus products it is working on in partnership with Google.

James Fisher, senior vice president at LG said at CES: "Through our collaboration with Google, we launched the LG Nexus 4 smartphone. This is the first of many devices to come from our growing partnership with this very selective company."

"at Mobile World Congress next month and throughout the year, you'll see us bring to market more tier-one premium handsets in various screen sizes" he added.

Rumours suggest that the Nexus 4 successor will come with a 2GHz processor and a new version of Android called Key Lime Pie to follow 4.2 Jelly Bean.

A new Nexus smartphone is all very well but Google and LG will have to work harder at actually getting the device into the hands of consumers. With its bargain SIM-free price of £239 but a high-end specification, the Nexus 4 has only been in stock for a couple of days since launching last November on the Google Play Store.
