Ability to lock Android apps added to latest McAfee Mobile Security

Popular Android apps such as Facebook, LinkedIn and Gmail do not always require a log-in each time they are launched, leaving them open to misuse.

To help Android users overcome this shortcoming, McAfee has added in App Lock functionality into the latest edition of McAfee Mobile Security, its security suite for protecting of personal information inside individual mobile apps.

McAfee Asia-Pacific consumer marketing programs director, Melanie Duca, said App Lock works by locking individual apps.

The App Lock feature allows Android users to protect their Facebook and Twitter apps against prying eyes or misuse by locking them with the same PIN tied to the smartphone, she said.

Time to log out

With smartphone and tablet apps being used to access all forms of private information and details, such as personal photos, emails and credit card numbers, users are increasingly being put at risk of having their information stolen.

Duca said this is further compounded by the fact that users access several social media apps at any one time and rarely log out of them once the app is no longer in use.

McAfee is the first to include this feature as an integrated part of a comprehensive mobile app privacy solution, she said.

In addition to the new app privacy technology, the latest version of McAfee Mobile Security also sports a completely refreshed user interface.

The security app is available on Google Play for $29.95 and existing subscribers can simply update their app to the new version with the added features.
