iPad mini, iMac production issues easing, Apple suppliers to see revenue boost in Q1 2013 - report

New reports suggest things are set to pick up for Apple and its suppliers next year

Apple suppliers will see a revenue boost in the first quarter of 2013, an increase that has reportedly been delayed due to mass production issues with the iPad mini and new iMac models.

DigiTimes cites industry sources who claim that mass production of iPad mini's panels have suffered low yield rates and that suppliers have seen a shortage of backlight modules, affecting the amount of Apple's 7.9in tablet that can be shipped this year.

According to the sources, AU Optronics and LG Display are Apple's iPad mini panel suppliers, and that production issues at AU Optronics have caused the supplier's iPad mini display shipments to drop from a 40 per cent target to just 22 per cent.

As a result, Apple's ten million iPad mini shipment target for the fourth quarter of 2012 could be missed, with Apple's actual shipments reaching just six million during the period.

The sources told DigiTimes that LG Display is the supplier of the new iMac's panels, which require a new production process that has limited capacity, therefore delaying shipments.

Apple has said that the 21.5in models of the new iMac will begin shipping on Friday.

During the first quarter of 2013, things are set to pick up for Apple and its suppliers, and the sources suggest that Apple will reach its targets for the iPad mini and 21.5in and 27in iMacs.

Meanwhile, it looks like Apple's supply of the iPhone 5 is improving, just in time for Christmas.
