Microsoft is supposedly preparing an update for Windows Phone 8 called Apollo Plus.

The incremental update for Microsoft's mobile operating system will bring new features which didn't make it into the initial release. The firm will announce Windows Phone 8 Apollo Plus at next year's Mobile World Congress in February, according to The Verge.

Among the new features will be a notification center which Microsoft 'ran out of time' on, a Wi-Fi fix allowing connections to stay on and audio enhancements. VPN (virtual private network) support will allow users, mainly business, to connect to corporate systems. Nokia Lumia 820 review.

Windows Phone 8 Apollo Plus will be the first update to arrive for users over the air (OTA), like iOS and Android. Windows Phone owners previously had to plug into a PC to conduct updates.

While some Windows Phone 8 handsets have launched, including the Nokia Lumia 920 and HTC Windows Phone 8X, existing users are left waiting to be updated to Windows Phone 7.8.
