Allowing the use of mobile devices in the workforce and unified communications (UC) tools maybe the key to attracting top talent and retaining staff, according to a new survey.
Workers are increasingly requesting the use of mobile devices to boost their work performance and the survey, conducted by communications vendor, Jabra and analyst firm, Frost and Sullivan, indicated almost 67 per cent of employees were using smartphones in the workforce.

More than 30 per cent of workers were also using personal devices for work. It also indicated more than 55 per cent of employees were also using tablet devices.
According to Jabra A/NZ managing director, Fulvio Toniotti, nearly seven out of 10 organisations expect smartphone and tablet usage to increase in the next few years. "Companies that want to separate themselves from the pack would be well-served to begin deploying UC tools that enable employees to maximise their mobility and efficiency while at work," Toniotti said in a statement. "It is also a great way for employers to demonstrate their commitment to supporting mobility in the workplace creating not only a better work-life balance but also helping attract and retain top talent that are looking for increased flexibility from their organisation."
Survey respondents pointed out a key lesson learned with implementing UC, was the importance of communicating and educating staff about the new tools and changes.
Out of the 302 companies surveyed, some did nothing to assist users in the new UC implementation, while 48 per cent of companies supplied a dedicated IT help-desk, 42 per cent offered training sessions and 32 per cent provided self-help information.
