Apple releases iOS 6.1 beta to developers

New beta includes changes to Maps integration in third-party apps, Passbook improvements and Safari tweaks

Apple on Thursday released its iOS 6.1 beta for developers to begin testing, with improvements to the widely criticised Maps app's programming interface. Apple also issued an Xcode 4.6 beta.

The iOS 6.1 beta, which is said to be 'Build 10B509f' is available for iPhone 5, iPhone 4S, iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS, as well as the fourth, third and second iPad, and the fifth and fourth generation iPod touch.

Both betas are available to download from Apple's developer website now.

Apple notes various changes to the latest version of iOS 6 in its beta for iOS 6.1, which was seeded to developers as the public were issued with an iOS 6.0.1 update. These changes include several related to how developers can integrate Apple's mapping service into their third-party apps, and also Passbook improvements and some Safari tweaks.
