The Windows Phone 8 launch: as it happened

Microsoft launched Windows Phone 8 at 5pm this evening, UK time, at an event in San Francisco, and we had reporters there to cover the event live. Below is our live coverage of the Windows Phone 8 launch (details here).

It feels like we have been waiting a long time for Windows Phone 8 - the final piece in Microsoft's brand new line up of Windows products. We've known Windows Phone 8 was coming ever since Microsoft announced in June that Windows Phone 7 devices would be cast adrift as a whole new mobile OS came on line. Since then we've seen Windows Phone 8 devices announced by the likes of Nokia and Samsung, and the SDK for app developers made a belated appearance last week. Plus, of course, with great fanfare Microsoft announced Windows 8itself last Thursday. See Windows Phone 8 review.
