iPhone 5 beating Samsung S3 for mobile web usage

iPhone 5 accounts for 56% of pages compared to 44% for the Galaxy S3

According to a study by mobile advertising network Chitika, after just three weeks the iPhone 5 is already accounting for more web traffic than the Samsung Galaxy S III, despite the latter smartphone being on sale for nearly four months.

Chitika Insights' report claims the iPhone 5 accounts for 56% of pages compared to 44% for the Galaxy S III.

Chitika claims it analyzed millions of mobile ad impressions, spanning a 7-day time frame from 3 October to 9 October 2012. The analysis then focused specifically on impressions coming from the iPhone 5 and Galaxy S III, and the researchers were able to observe the difference in web traffic volume between the two devices.

Chitika speculates that the iPhone 5 was able to overtaken the Galaxy S III in terms of web traffic volume thanks to record-breaking sales and the new 4G browsing speeds which the ad network suggests "encourage data usage".

Chitika notes that businesses should make sure their ads can reach both flagship devices, but noted that it's research shows that "iPhone users still being the most active - and hence marketable - users of the mobile web.
