T-Mobile Gets a Nokia Windows Phone 8 of its own

T-Mobile will get its own exclusive Windows Phone 8 handset from Nokia, the Lumia 810.

T-Mobile will get its own exclusive Windows Phone 8 handset from Nokia, the Lumia 810.

Unfortunately, it's not a high-end phone like Nokia's Lumia 920, which will be exclusive to AT&T. Instead, it's more akin to the mid-range Lumia 820, which also is coming to AT&T.

Nokia's Lumia 810 has a 4.3-inch, 800-pixel-by-480-pixel resolution display, an 8-megapixel rear camera, and a 1.2-megapixel front camera. For the moment, T-Mobile hasn't announced the phone's processor or storage capacity.

It's also not clear whether the Lumia 810 will have a microSD slot. Like the Lumia 820, wireless charging is not included with the phone, but users can purchase a removal shell, either in cyan or black, that adds wireless charging.

The Lumia 810 omits the PureView technology found in Nokia's Lumia 920, so the built-in camera won't have any added image stabilization or low-light enhancements. However, the camera does have a Group Shoot feature, which lets users select from a burst of photos, and a Cinemagraph feature that creates animated GIF files.

Apps

As with Nokia's other Lumia phones, the Windows Phone software includes a few special apps: Nokia City Lens uses augmented reality to overlay local business listings on the surfaces of buildings; Nokia Drive provides voice-guided, turn-by-turn navigation; and Nokia Music offers ad-free, curated music playlists, which can be downloaded for offline use.

T-Mobile says the Lumia 810 will be available "in the coming weeks," but didn't announce pricing. The exact release date will have to be after October 29, when Microsoft will officially launch Windows Phone 8.

Although T-Mobile and AT&T have now announced their plans for Nokia's next handsets, Verizon customers are still in the dark. There are rumors of another Lumia 820 variant coming to Verizon, but nothing concrete has yet been announced. Meanwhile, HTC has already announced that its Windows Phone 8X and 8S are coming to AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon in November.
