Samsung has confirmed it will reveal a smaller 'mini' version of the popular Galaxy S3 smartphone today.

Head of communications at Samsung, JK Shin, has confirmed that the firm will launch a Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini device on October 11. The news confirms rumours that Samsung would do so this year do help it in the battle against Apple's iPhone 5.

The Galaxy S3 Mini will use a 4in screen, the same size as the iPhone 5 which was the first iPhone to use a larger screen size than 3.5in. The Android powered Galaxy S3 uses a 4.8in screen and Samsung's Galaxy Mini has a 3.1in display.

JK Shin told reporters that the Galaxy S3 would not be an entry level device. According to previous reports, the Galaxy S3 Mini will feature a dual-core processor and a 5Mp camera. The suggested price tag is £250.

Mini products seem to be all the rage at the moment with Apple expected to reveal an iPad Mini next week to take on the likes of the Google Nexus 7 and Amazon Kindle Fire.
