Siri still in Beta in iOS 6, struggles to find Apple Stores

The voice assistant is a year old, but continues to have trouble with some basic functions

Siri is still in Beta in iOS 6, and, despite being a year old, still struggles with some basic functions including finding a local Apple Store.

In May, Apple CEO Tim Cook spoke about Siri at the All Things D conference, and said that the company is investing time developing the voice assistant. "We have a lot of people working on this. And I think you'll be really pleased with some of the things that you'll see in the coming months we've got some cool ideas about what Siri can do."

"I think you're going to be really happy with where it's going. We're doubling down on it," Cook said.

With iOS 6, Siri has had some improvement. It's learnt about subjects including sport, movies and local businesses in the UK. However, the technology still remains in Beta and, as pointed out by Apple Insider, still struggles with some basic tasks.

In Apple Insider's tests, Siri had trouble locating Apple Stores, instead providing nearby businesses with the word 'apple' in their name. Apple Stores did show up on the list, but the user was often forced to scroll down a list before finding it.

"The local search results conducted through Siri appear to be driven by proximity to the user rather than accuracy," Apple Insider reports.

Apple's website still gives Siri a Beta badge, and states: "Siri is available in Beta only on the iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPad (3rd generation) and iPod touch (5th generation).
