Releases software update to fix security issue
Samsung has said the Galaxy S3 hack has been fixed to prevent the security exploit.
This week it was reported that the Galaxy S3 was vulnerable to a hack which could see the smartphone completely wiped and even the SIM card bricked. Samsung has responded claiming that users are now safe thanks to a software update.
Samsung said in a statement: "We would like to assure our customers that the recent security issue concerning the Galaxy S III has already been resolved through a software update."
"We recommend all Galaxy S III customers to download the latest software update, which can be done quickly and easily via the Over-The-Air (OTA) service."
The hack involves a line of USSD (Unstructured Supplementary Service Data) code being sent to the device from a website, NFC or a QR code which wipes it entirely.
This exploit apparenty works on any device with Samsung's TouchWiz software. We're waiting to hear back on whether non-Galaxy S3 users are safe.
