EE hints at iPhone 5 4G

Apple's iPhone 5 could be exclusive to EE

EE, the new brand and network from Everything Everywhere has hinted that Apple's iPhone 5 will be 4G capable.

The mobile company launched the UK's first 4G mobile broadband network today along with a number of 4G capable devices. The list of mostly smartphones didn't include the next generation iPhone but EE strongly hinted that it will come with 4G. See alsoiPhone 5 launch: live blog.

EE Brand launch

Olaf Swantee, CEO of EE said: "To ensure our customers can make the most of 4G. We will be launching state of the art devices from the work's leading manufacturers including Samsung, HTC, Nokia and Huawei." See iPhone 5 release date, specs and rumour round-up.

Then in Apple style, Swantee said with a knowing and suggestive look: "Oh and one more thing, we will be announcing more devices very shortly." Take a look at How to watch Apple's iPhone 5 launch live.

With Apple due to reveal the iPhone 5 tomorrow, it's highly likely that EE will offer the phone but couldn't mention it at today's launch event at the London Science Museum. Visit iPhone 5 launch: everything you need to know.

If the iPhone does come with a 4G chip, let's be fair it would be crazy if it didn't, then EE will be the only network to support 4G services and the firm could have an exclusive on it, like O2 had on the original iPhone.

Confirmed smartphones include the Samsung Galaxy S3 LTE, HTC One XL, Nokia Lumia 820 LTE, Nokia Lumia 920 LTE and Huawei Ascend P1 LTE.
