Samsung Galaxy S3 sales to top 10m

Samsung Galaxy S3 builds its dominance in the smartphone market

Samsung predicts its Galaxy S3 will hit sales of 10 million next month.

The firm is continuing to stamp its mark on the industry and thinks it will break the landmark figure by the end of July, according to Reuters. The Android-powered Galaxy S3 launched at the end of May and is the biggest challenge to Apple's iPhone.

JK Shin, head of mobile at Samsung said: "The overall market condition was challenging due to euro zone issues and tight supply of components ... but (our) second-quarter results will be better than the first quarter,"

Samsung hit the mobile vendor top spot in April, knocking Nokia from its long standing position by shipping 92 million handsets. In the first quarter of the year Samsung made $3.6bn from mobile accounting for more than 70 percent of group operating profit.

Before the Galaxy S3 launched pre-orders hit a whopping nine million. However, it was not all plain sailing for Samsung.

The Samsung Galaxy S3 in pebble blue was delayed due to its 'hyperglaze' material leaving punters without their new smartphone. Later Apple tried to ban the device before its US launch, the attempt failed.

US mobile operators T-Mobile, Sprint and AT&T have been unable to offer the 32GB model due to stock shortages.
