Samsung will reportedly launch a Galaxy Note 2 this year to compete with the Apple iPhone 5. Updated on 25/09/12
Samsung wants to directly compete with Apple's iPhone 5
The follow-up to the Galaxy Note will come with an unbreakable plane (UBP) display, a precursor to flexible screens, according to MK Business News. Samsung is deliberately looking to launch the Note 2 at the same time as the iPhone 5.

Galaxy Note 2: Release Date
The first rumours surrounding the Galaxy Note 2 suggested the device would launch in October. However, Samsung has confirmed it will unveil its Galaxy Note 2 on 29 August. The Samsung Unpacked event will take place a couple of days before IFA where the firm announced the first Galaxy Note.
This date is also a couple of weeks before Apple is tipped to reveal the iPhone 5 and an iPad Mini on 12 September.
The Galaxy Note went up for pre-order with a release date of mid-October. However, both Clove and UnlockedMobiles say the Note 2 will be shipping within the next few days. The latter has a due date of 28 September and the former says it will start shipping the week commencing 1 October.
Galaxy Note 2: Price
The price for the Galaxy Note 2 varies from retailer to retailer. Clove has the device available for £528 inc VAT while UnlockedMobiles has a slightly higher asking price of £544. Amazon trumps them both, but not in a good way since the Galaxy Note 2 is listed as £702. All prices are for the 16GB model.
Galaxy Note 2: Specifications
Samsung is supposedly looking to use a larger screen of 5.5in on the next Galaxy Note than the current 5.3in whopper. It will also feature longer battery life, better build quality and a quad-core processor.

The UBP display will apparently mean the phone can be slimmer by allowing more space for the baseband core chip and application processor.
The Galaxy Note II is said to be derived from Samsung's current flagship device, the Galaxy S3. Furthermore, the Galaxy Note 2 will come with the next version of Google's Android operating system, 4.1 Jelly Bean.
"The Korean phone maker was rumoured to be planning a successor to the Galaxy Note from earlier on in the year, but the decision to move up the launch date to October was made very recently as the company finalized its strategies for the second half of the year." said MK Business News.
Galaxy Note 2: Images
Samsung might have inadvertently posted a picture of its upcoming Galaxy Note 2 on Facebook.

The picture has been published on the Samsung Pakistan page with the caption 'Picture perfect view made even more perfect with Samsung Galaxy S3'. However, the smartphone is clearly not the Galaxy S3.
Here's an official image of the Galaxy Note 2.

Galaxy Note 2: Teaser Video
Samsung has released a teaser video of the Galaxy Note 2 smartphone ahead of its launch.
As usual the teaser video gives little information as to what the device will look like or its specifications, showing only close up glimpses of the screen. The focus of the piece is on the stylus which is clearly shown a number of times.
The confusion here is the suggestion of a 'small' device since the original Galaxy Note had a 5.3in screen and the Galaxy Note 2 is tipped to have an even larger 5.5in display, pushing it even close to tablet size. Take a look for yourself below.
