Apple wants to disrupt US launch of the Samsung Galaxy S3
The iPhone maker has filed a lawsuit at the District Court for the Northern District of California, according to The Los Angeles Times. Apple claims the Galaxy S3 infringes on at least two of its user-interface patents. See also: Samsung Galaxy S3 vs Apple iPhone 4S comparison review.
"Samsung believes Apple’s request is without merit," the firm said. "We will vigorously oppose the request and demonstrate to the court that the Galaxy S III is innovative and distinctive."
According to the BBC, Apple's lawyer, Mark Lyon said: "The Galaxy S3 will... irreparably harm Apple for the same reasons as the Galaxy Nexus, but on a much greater scale,"
Apple told us: "It's no coincidence that Samsung's latest products look a lot like the iPhone and iPad, from the shape of the hardware to the user interface and even the packaging. This kind of blatant copying is wrong and, as we've said many times before, we need to protect Apple's intellectual property when companies steal our ideas."
The news is just the latest part of the long standing battle between the two firms. In the past Apple has managed to ban Samsung smartphones and tablets in various countries and vice versa.
Meanwhile US mobile operators including Sprint and T-Mobile have started taking pre-orders for the Galaxy S3 with a launch date of 21 June. Samsung insists the launch will go ahead as planned.

Leroy Kunz said: Sounds like apple is pissing their pants What i think about this is that apple just cant keep up withSamsungand that even with theiPhone5supposedlycoming out soon the phone wont be able to stand next to the Galaxy s3 And the reason for them trying to stop the phone is complete BS The phone looks like an Iphone and Ipad first off IPhone and IPad are 2 completely different products Second off what do they expect a Touch screen phone will look like If that is the issue every touch screen phone released in the last several years should have been banned for sale in the US cause they all look somewhat similar And as for the User Interface looking like theirs Galaxy s3 is Android and Iphone is IOS 2 completely different operating systems that dont look anything alike or operate similarlyI mean this entire thing is like saying Ford wants Nissan to stop selling cars in the US because they look the same to what they have been making you know 4 wheels chairs engine windowslet snot forget the v6 engine that they both have running the carsIf apples product was the top of the line they would not be so worried about the galaxy s3 But the fact of the matter is that the galaxy s3 is a far more superior phone with far better hardware vs what apple has out currently that it can not compete with them and it is scaring them so badly that they are looking for any reason to stop the release or at very least to delay it so that they can try and beef up the iphone 5 to compete That sure does seem like a reason Without any Merit to me as Samsung said
