Usage of new iPad overtakes original iPad

It's taken just two months for the new iPad to catch up to the original iPad in terms of usage share

Apple's third-generation iPad has become the second most widely used iPad, overtaking Apple's original tablet after just two months after it was launched.

Apple sold over three million of its newest iPad within a weekend of its launch in March, and the tablet has now caught up with the original iPad in terms of usage share.

According to Localytics' new data, the third-gen iPad now accounts for over 20 per cent of all US based iPads seen by apps using the company's app analytics service.

In the launch week of the new iPad, the original iPad accounted for 24 per cent of iPads, the iPad 2 had a 62 per cent share, and the third-generation iPad had a 14 per cent share.

Data collected from 16 May to 22 May shows that the new iPad now has a 20 per cent share, equal to that of the original iPad. The iPad 2 is still the most popular iPad in terms of usage, with a 60 per cent share.
