Samsung Galaxy S3 has 9 million pre-orders

The new Samsung Galaxy S3 smartphone is hot on the heels of the iPhone 4S' records

Korean tech giant Samsung has bagged itself a whopping 9 million pre-orders of its much anticipated new smartphone the Samsung Galaxy S3.

According to a news story from Reuters, the new Android phone, that is available in more than one hundred countries, is already well on its way to becoming the most successful Android smartphone released to date. So popular is the Samsung Galaxy S3 that an "unidentified Samsung official" has revealed to Korean news that Samsung factories are working at full capacity in order to keep up with demands - and are producing a massive 5 million S3 units a month.

This news comes off the back of a particularly good period for Samsung as earlier this month, they were revealed as the world's biggest Android mobile phone manufacturer with an impressive 30.6 percent share of market sales (based on sales in the first quarter of 2012).

The pre-order success of the Samsung Galaxy S3 will come as a particular blow to Apple who are predicting a poor Q3 due to rumours of iPhone 5 - especially as the Samsung Galaxy S3 is predicted to mount the biggest challenge that the iPhone has ever had in terms of most desirable smartphone on the market.

The Samsung Galaxy S3 will arrive a day early in UK, 29 May, and go on general sale world wide on 30 May. The UK price will depend on which network you choose to opt for, with most contracts costing between £35-£46 a month depending on how much data and minutes you want.

New features in the Samsung Galaxy S3 include a 4.8 SuperAMOLED screen with a resolution of 720 x 1280, Google's new operating system Ice Cream Sandwich and Samsung's rival to Siri 'S Voice' See a full list of specs and feature in our Samsung Galaxy S3 review.
