Nokia launches Reading app for Lumia phones

Global roll out of eBook store and reading software

Nokia is releasing its eBook Reading app to its Lumia smartphones from today.

The Windows Phone app will be available to Lumia 900, 800, 710 and 610 owners. European countries including the UK, France and Germany will get it first with others to follow over the rest of the year. See also Nokia Lumia 900 review.

Nokia said: "Today is the start of the global roll-out of Nokia Reading, an app and service that serves up the written word in your own language on your Lumia smartphone."

"This new service takes full advantage of the platform’s design to make reading on-the-go both convenient and visually attractive."

As well as the ability to read eBooks, the Reading app gives access to a store for purchasing titles.  Nokia will also be updating the app to include support audio books and News Stream. The latter "will offer a virtual news magazine, making subscribing to and enjoying local and international RSS feeds simpler and more beautiful than ever before".

The font size is adjustable and the Reading app has a night mode which makes the background black and the text white.

Nokia's Lumia 900 has gone on sale in the UK with Phones 4U offering it from yesterday. The firm is selling the white model exclusive and is giving away free Monster headphones with the handset.
