Samsung has confirmed a limited edition Olympic Games Galaxy S3 handset with Visa’s payWave app.
The special version of the smartphone will be available to Samsung and Visa sponsored athletes and come complete with the payWave. The mobile payment app utilises the Galaxy S III’s near-field communications (NFC) chip.
DJ Lee, executive vice president of marketing at Samsung said: "Mobile payment services enabled by NFC technology are gaining momentum around the world. The Samsung Galaxy S III has been created with our human needs and capabilities in mind and is the ideal device to showcase the ease and convenience of Visa's mobile payment application at the London 2012 Olympic Games."
At the launch of the flagship phone last week Samsung said "it will be the hero of the Olympic games".
The phone will enable users to ‘buy merchandise with a wave of the device at thousands of retail locations throughout London’, according to Samsung. The firm said that by the time the Olympic Games come round there will be more than 140,000 contactless terminals in the UK.
The limited edition Galaxy S3 is ‘supported and enabled’ by Lloyds TSB. The Visa payWave app will allow easy payments without a passcode up to the value of £20.
