Pegatron lands more orders for iPad 3 and iPad 4 - report

Supply chain sources believe fourth-generation iPad could launch in October

Apple has asked Pegatron to produce a "small volume" of iPad 3 units and the company is also expected to land a production deal for the iPad 4, according to a report.

Digitimes reports that orders for the iPad 3, which is rumoured to launch in March, have already been received and the company expects to receive an order for between seven and 10 million units of the iPad 4, citing "sources from the upstream supply chain".

Of course, neither Apple nor Pegatron has made any comment about the report. The rumour follows on from a report in the same publication last week that cited component makers in Taiwan as saying that the iPad 4 would launch in October this year.

The report goes on to claim that Pegatron is likely to become Apple's primary producer of iPads with the company's production of the iPhone to be scaled down, while fellow Apple manufacturer Foxconn is likely to see its production of iPads reduced while the production of iPhones will increase.

Meanwhile, Foxconn reported record high revenues for December 2011, with industry sources believing that high demand for Apple products was one of the main factors behind the gains.

However, Foxconn chairman Terry Guo has warned that the state of the global economy could mean that 2012 will be a tough one for the company.
