New version of Motorola Razr unveiled

Iconic mobile phone has been redesigned

Motorola has unveiled a new version of its iconic Razr mobile phone.

The original Razr series, which was launched in 2004, featured a clamshell design and sold more 130 million handsets across the globe. It was also was also named the UK's favourite mobile phone of the past ten years in a survey by FoneBank.

However, with the new version Motorola has opted for a slim candy-bar body, made from Kevlar fibre and measuring just 7.1mm thick.

Powered by a dual core 1.2Ghx processor, the Motorola Razr runs Google Android 2.3.5, also known as Gingerbread and weighs just 127g. It benefits from a 4.3in Super AMOLED display with Gorilla Glass and a splash guard coating, that should ensure it withstands every day knocks and bumps. The Motorola Razr also comes with 1GB of storage, assisted GPS., an 8Mp rear camera and 1.3Mp front-facing camera thats capable of capturing footage at 720p

Furthermore, the handset comes preloaded with Motorola MotoCast, an app that lets users stream or download music and videos from any PC that also has MotoCast installed on it. Meanwhile, the Smart Actions app will you automate everyday tasks such as switching the handset to silent when you step into work or sending a text to the number you've missed a call from.

Motorola says email, contacts and calendar are protected by a government-graded encryption system and a host of optional extras including docks that ensure the handset can be connected to HDTVs.

"The original Motorola RAZR turned a functional necessity into an object of desire. Now we've done it again by creating an impossibly thin smartphone – a head-turning design with the power to carry your life with you," says Michelle Digulla, president, Motorola Mobility Canada.

The Motorola Razr will hit the UK in November.
