iOS 5 Drops October 12th, Includes Wireless iOS Updates

Apple is taking a page from rival competitor Android, with iOS 5 now providing wireless updates and scrollable notifications for App updates.

Notifications: Apple's new Notification Center feature now groups every update in your iOS device in one place, rather than scattering the reminders in various push notifications. It's a smart solution for people with several apps on their iPhones and iPads that undergo regular updates.

iMessage: Anyone with an iPhone or iPad now has the ability to send unlimited text messages to each other over 3G and Wi-Fi. Group message is included, and the service is built into its own app.

Newsstand: New York Times, GQ, and Vanity Fair are a handful of publications that will be part of Apple's new Newsstand app, which basically acts as digital source for popular print publications. Subscriptions can also be purchased though the app, which is displayed as an actual newsstand.

Twitter: Even Twitter gets its own iPhone app, which is sure to cause many headaches for Twitter clients like TweetDeck and Echofon. Apple's version of the service lets you tweet "directly from Safari, Photos, Camera, YouTube, or Maps," along with picking out mentions from your Contacts.
