Apple Finally Confirms Special iPhone Event for Oct. 4

At last, Apple has confirmed rumors that an iPhone event will be held next week at their Cupertino headquarters.

Although iPhone sales have yet to decline, Android is gobbling up more of the smartphone market share every month. If the iPhone needed a shot in the arm, now would certainly be the time. On October 4th, Apple will finally take the lid off what's next for their game-changing mobile device.

Macworld reports that Apple has just begun to send out invites to members of the press for an special event, saying "Let's talk about iPhone." As cryptic and mysterious as ever, the invite only references four iPhone icons: the Maps app, Calendar, Clock, and the actual Phone function. It's anyone's guess if the conference specifically talks about those functions, but one thing that's expected is an iPhone 5 or iPhone 4G reveal.

So far, the saga of the iPhone 5 has been surprisingly similar to the last model, with everything from an alleged prototype being lost in a bar to leaked production photos to constantly changing spec rumors about the design. For Apple's part, the timing would be perfect, if incredibly telegraphed, thanks to changes made with the iOS 5 update and iCloud compatibility.

We're betting an iPhone 5 extravaganza hosted by Tim Cook. Any takers?
