Facebook iOS app gets an overhaul

Still no iPad-specific app, though

Facebook has issued a new version of its app for iOS devices.

Facebook for iOS version 3.5 is available to download from the App Store now and brings several new features such as the ability to tag friends and places in posts and the ability to share external links from a web view.

Additionally, you'll see a new design for Profile and Group Walls and an improved sharing tool that adds privacy controls on posts and matches your settings to those on the Facebook website. Facebook introduced a number of updates to privacy controls at the end of August.

However, what is missing seems to be more significant - firstly, reports of photo filters being added to the mobile app don't seem to have come to fruition, and secondly, there is still no iPad-specific app.

Reports that Facebook has been developing an iPad app have been prolific in recent months, and these were seemingly confirmed by a leak in late July. But as yet there is still no Facebook for iPad, unfortunately, nor is there any official word on when it will arrive.

Several bugs have also been fixed in the updated Facebook for iOS app, including problems with the Notifications bar, bugs in the Photos section, and there have also been improvements to stability and performance, Facebook said.

It's compatible with the iPhone, iPod touch and iPad and requires iOS 3.0 or later.
