White iPod touch on the way?

Headphone jack for iPod touch spotted in white by Japanese website

Apple could be about to release a white iPod touch, according to reports.

Japanese website Macotakara has discovered a white headphone jack with a slanted edge, which would fit the current iPod touch design. The site claims it is for the fifth-generation iPod touch, which is expected to be revealed this autumn at a music-themed event.

The white headphone jack doesn't resemble other headphone jacks, supposedly for the next-generation iPhone, which were leaked last month. Those headphone jacks didn't have the same sloped edge but were flat, suggesting the iPhone 5 will have a similar design to the iPhone 4, at least as far as the edges are concerned.

Back in July, Apple Insider reported that Apple was planning a white iPod touch, with Concord Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo claiming that these models would go into production in late August. However, Kuo expected the new iPod touch - which will come in black as well - to closely resemble the previous generation.

Other evidence that Apple could be about to produce a white iPod touch surfaced earlier this week in the form of pictures of a white LCD front panel and digitizer for the device.

Apple's efforts to create a white iPhone 4 were delayed by problems with the paint it used to cover the glass panels used on the front and back of the device. The paint apparently let too much light into the body of the iPhone, leaving pictures taken on the device's camera over-exposed.
