Apple issues iOS 5 beta 6

Plus new iTunes, Apple TV Software and iWork for iOS betas

On Friday, Apple issued iOS 5 beta 6 build 9A5302b for developers, as well as new betas of iTunes 10.5 and Apple TV software, plus a second iWork for iOS beta, Xcode 4.2 and iOS 5 SDK beta 6.

iOS 5 is due to be released this autumn, and with September rapidly approaching, Apple has released the sixth beta of the forthcoming mobile operating system.

The update, which arrived roughly two weeks after Apple issued iOS 5 beta 5, doesn't appear to have any major new features. TechCrunch reports that there seems to be more in the way of bug fixes and minor tweaks. This is likely to be because Apple is nearing the end of the Beta phase and preparing for the release later this year, therefore polishing up and ensuring everything works well will be the company's priority.

iOS 5 was announced alongside iCloud at the Worldwide Developers Conference keynote in June.

Among the 200 plus new features that will arrive with iOS 5, are Reminders, a new to-do list app; Newsstand, a new approach to discovering and browsing newspapers and magazines on your iOS devices; and updates to many of the well known apps such as Safari, Maps and Photos. Find out more here.
