RIM unveils three new BlackBerry Curve handsets

BlackBerry Curve 9350,9360 and 9370 will all run BlackBerry 7 OS

Research in Motion (RIM) has unveiled three new smartphones in its BlackBerry Curve range.

The BlackBerry Curve 9350, Curve 9360 and Curve 9370 will all run the BlackBerry 7 mobile platform that was announced by RIM earlier this month. Furthermore, the smartphones will feature upgraded processors - although RIM did not go into further details - and Near Field Communications (NFC) technology that among other things lets users pay for goods and services by simply tapping their smartphone on a special pad.

RIM said the latest edition of its mobile platform, BlackBerry OS 7, benefits from 40 percent faster web browsing compared to BlackBerry OS 6 smartphones thanks to the advanced WebKit browser engine coupled with improvements to the handsets. Furthermore, the mobile platform also comes with optimised zooming and panning, improved HTML5 performance and Liquid Graphics technology, which works in conjunction with the handset's dedicated graphics processor, CPU and display to deliver "a highly responsive touch interface with incredibly fast and smooth graphics".

The handsets, which measure 109x60x11mm, come with a QWERTY keyboard and trackpad, as well as a 2.44in display, 5MP camera, GPS and Wi-Fi connectivity. The internal memory can also be expanded thanks to support for microSD cards up to 32GB.

"These new models will build on the incredible success of the BlackBerry Curve line and further expand the largest global launch of BlackBerry smartphones in our history," said Mike Lazaridis, President and Co-CEO at Research In Motion.

"The new BlackBerry Curve smartphones are absolutely stunning and offer a significant performance upgrade with an unmatched mobile social experience for the millions of feature phone users in the market as well as our existing Curve customers."

The BlackBerry Curve 9350, 9360 and 9370 are expected to be made available in the UK in September. Pricing details have yet to be released.
