Apple accuses HTC of infringing patents

Tech giant goes after smartphone manufacturer again

Apple has filed a complaint with the US International Trade Commission (ITC) accusing HTC of infringing its patents.

A description of the technology covered in the complaint, which was filed on July 8, has not been made available.

"HTC is dismayed that Apple has resorted to competition in the courts rather than the market place," said HTC's general counsel, Grace Lei, while adding that none of the claims were true.

It’s not the first time the tech giant has hit out at HTC. In March last year, Apple filed a lawsuit alleging that HTC infringed 20 of its patents relating to the user interface and the underlying architecture and hardware of the iPhone. However, HTC retaliated by filing a complaint with the ITC claiming Apple infringed five of its patents. While it did not reveal the technology covered in the patents, it did ask the ITC to halt the importation and sale of the iPhone, iPad and iPod in the US.

Last week, Apple filed a complaint with the ITC seeking to block the import of tablets and smartphones made by Samsung, in retaliation after Samsung filed a similar complaint, attempting to block the import of Apple's mobile electronics devices.
