Samsung Galaxy S2 sales top 3 million

Samsung set to take the world's top smartphone maker crown

Samsung said it sold more than 3 million of its Galaxy S2 smartphone in just 55 days since its launch in late April. The company claims it has sold around 19 million smartphones in total during the past quarter, capturing around 17 percent of the world smartphone market. See also Samsung Galaxy S3 review.

A thin, lightweight, dual-core smartphone with a Super AMOLED Plus screen, the Samsung Galaxy S2 (reviewed here) is the South Korean electronics giant's flagship smartphone device. Samsung's smartphone business is fighting back strongly after a poor 2010, and is poised to take over the crown of world's largest phone maker from Nokia, as the Finnish company attempts to make the move from Symbian to Windows Phone 7, and convert its dominance of the mobile phone market into the more lucrative, and strategically important, smartphone market.
