White iPhone 4 'on sale by end of April'

10-month delay coming to an end

Sources close to Apple have claimed that the company will start selling the white iPhone 4 by the end of this month, according to Bloomberg.

The sources, which Bloomberg names only as "three people with knowledge of [Apple's] plans... who asked not to be identified because the plans aren't public", stated that the white iPhone 4 will be made available in the US by the end of April through AT&T and Verizon.

Reuters, meanwhile, reports that Apple's suppliers have already begun assembling the white iPhone 4 handsets.

The launch of the white iPhone has been delayed by 10 months, since the iPhone 4 made its debut in June last year. An initial set-back saw Steve Jobs push back the US launch of the white iPhone 4 until September 2010, which was followed shortly after by Orange telling UK customers that the model wouldn't be available in this country until the end of that year.

Additional delays have been the result of "manufacturing challenges, including paint that peeled under heat", Bloomberg's sources said.

The iPhone 4 is one of Apple's most successful products yet, and picked up 4.5 stars and a Gold award in the PC Advisor Test Centre. Demand for alternative-colour editions of Apple products has traditionally been high, and the delays to the white iPhone 4 have given it the additional cachet of unattainability; industry experts anticipate strong sales when it finally hits the shops.
