Poll: A third plan to buy smartphone this year

28% are happy with the smartphone they've got

In a PC Advisor poll of 3,075 visitors to the site, over a third (35.2%) said they intend to purchase a smartphone in the next 12 months.

"I've had this HTC G2 now for 18 months and I am now looking to upgrade," wrote PCA forum member carver. "The phone's not bad but the latest ones are definitely better."

A number of forum members said their feelings on smartphones have become more favourable in the past few years.

"Was of the old school brigade that all I need to do is make calls," said Devil Fish. "Due to circumstance changes, however, will be looking to get one soon."

"Two years ago I thought I would never need one, but now I would be lost without it," added carver.

Of those who don't plan to buy a smartphone in the near future, the largest chunk said this was because they already have one, and are satisfied with it. More than a quarter of voters (28.3 percent) went for the answer 'No - I'm happy with my current smartphone'.

"My Blackberry will keep me going for a long time yet," said ams4127.

But some voters haven't been bitten by the smartphone bug; 27 percent answered 'No - I'm not interested in smartphones'.

The remaining 9.5 percent answered 'Not sure'.
