INQ unveils social networking phones

Handset is not Facebook-branded

INQ has unveiled two new smartphones that run Google Android and focus heavily on social networking.

The INQ Cloud Touch and the INQ Cloud Q are not a Facebook-branded phones, as had been previously predicted. However, rather than requiring users to download an app for the social network, the handsets instead benefit from Facebook on the homescreen. There are also one-touch links to Facebook Chat, Friends, Messages, Wall and Notifications.

The Cloud Touch features a 3.5in touchscreen, while the Cloud Q comes with a 2.6in screen and QWERTY keyboard. Both handsets run Froyo, version 2.2 of Google Android and will also feature Spotify as the built-in music player.

The INQ Cloud Touch is powered by a Qualcomm 7227 600MHz processor and also comes with a 5Mp camera, wi-fi and Bluetooth connectivity and 4MB of memory which can be expanded with a microSD card.

INQ said the phones were "Built for people worldwide who use Facebook as their primary means of communication" and are the result of "close collaboration with Facebook".

"Facebook has evolved from a social network to become an incredibly powerful global communications platform," said Frank Meehan, INQ's CEO.

"Speed and simplicity of access to things you love is our DNA, so our next step is to make it even easier for people to experience the richness of Facebook – all from the homescreen"

The Cloud Touch will be made available in the UK through the Carphone Warehouse www.carphonewarehouse.com and Best Buy in April. It's expected to be available on contract with prices starting from £20 per month. The Cloud Q will be made available in Q3.
