Vodafone to stock Google's Nexus S

Network to offer handset when Carphone Warehouse exclusive expires

Vodafone has confirmed it will stock, the Nexus S, Google's successor to the Nexus One smartphone, later this year.

Google unveiled the Nexus S in December last year. The handset, which is manufactured by Samsung, features a 4in super-AMOLED display and is powered by a 1GHz Hummingbird processor with dedicated Graphics Processing Unit (GPU).

The phone is powered by Gingerbread, the latest edition of the search engine's mobile platform, Android. Version 2.3 of the OS offers a number of improvements including an improved copy and paste function, a new keyboard, a gyroscope sensor support which is useful for games and support for VoIP.

Users will also benefit from feature Near Field Communications (NFC) technology built into the handset that allows them to pay for goods and services by simply tapping their handset on a special pad in a store.

Vodafone did not reveal the exact date the handset would be available. Instead the network said it would hit stores one Google's exclusive deal with the Carphone Warehouse and Best Buy UK expires and will be available in both black and white. The handset is currently available on O2, T-Mobile and Orange with contract prices starting from £30 per month. Alternatively, the handsets costs £429.99 to buy on a Pay-as-you-go basis.
