LG Optimus 2X will be UK's first dual-core smartphone

CES: dual-core phone available in February

UK retailer Expansys is claiming that the LG Optimus 2X - the first dual-core smartphone available - will go on sale in the UK for a mighty £499, on 21 February. It contains an nVidia Tegra 2 dual core Cortex A9 SoC clocked at 1GHz.

The LG Optimus 2X was previewed at the CES tradeshow in Las Vegas last week, and announced in December. As well as a 4-inch capacitive WVGA display the Optimus 2x comes with an 8-megapixel camera that enjoys LED flash, a webcam and full HD video capture. In terms of connectivity and storage the 2X enjoys HDMI, DLNA support, Wi-Fi, 3G and up to 40GB memory on board.

The LG Optimus 2X launches with Google Android 'Froyo', with no announced plans to upgrade to a more recent version of the Google OS. In its promotional materials, Expansys says the smartphone is "one of the most powerful Android phones we've ever seen", and adds: "Video clips recorded on the LG Optimus 2X is so good [sic], you'd be hard pressed to tell they were recorded on a phone.

"Throw in 1080p HDMI out (for viewing movies on a HD TV) and DLNA support for wireless media streaming and the LG Optimus 2X has all the multimedia bases covered."
