Nokia has revealed its N8 smartphone will hit UK shelves on October 22.

The smartphone, which has been subject delays, will be available from O2, 3, Virgin, T-Mobile, Orange, Tesco Mobile and Vodafone, as well as high-street retailers Phones4u and the Carphone Warehouse.

Alternatively, Brits can get their hands on the smartphone from Nokia's website on October 15. The handset costs £429 SIM free or on contract from £30 per month.

The N8 features a 3.5in touchscreen, a 12Mp camera with a Xenon flash and support for video recording at 720p. Other video features include an HDMI port to connect to a TV and support for Dolby Digital Plus surround sound, according to Nokia.

Users will be able to surf the web using 802.11n. The handset also has 16GB of memory and a micro SD card.

"The Nokia N8 is one of the most innovative phones of 2010, packed with market leading features, including the best picture and video capability available on a smartphone," said Sami Lehtinen from Nokia.

Last week, Nokia said the first N8 handsets had left the company's factories in China and Finland.

Originally, the N8 was supposed to show up in stores during the second quarter. However, in April, Nokia announced the smartphone was delayed to the third quarter, and last month, the manufacturer had to put out a statement denying reports of further delays.
