Google Android 2.2 updates begin

Nexus One users first to get OS upgrade

Google Nexus One owners have begun to receive version 2.2 of the Android software, codenamed Froyo, as an over-the-air update to their phones, Google said in a blog post.

The update will be rolled out gradually, and most Nexus One users will receive notification of it by the end of the week, Google said. A message will appear on their smartphone's notification bar, prompting them to download the update. Once downloaded, it will automatically install, according to the blog post.

Android 2.2 has a number of improvements, including the ability to turn a smartphone into a portable Wi-Fi hotspot and support for Adobe Flash within the phone's browser.
