Vodafone iPhone sales hit 100,000 in one week

New Apple partner beats Orange to milestone

Vodafone revealed that it sold 100,000 Apple iPhones in the first week it was offering the handset.

The mobile network said half of the handsets had been pre-ordered before the smartphone's launch on January 15.

"Just over a week since launch and @VodafoneUK has already sold its 100,000th iPhone! #100k," Vodafone announced on the official Twitter feed on last week.

Vodafone is the third network in the UK to stock Apple's smartphone, following the end of O2's exclusive deal with Apple. Orange and Tesco Mobile also offer the handset.

The network announced in December that the iPhone would be available this month.

The number of handsets sold by Vodafone compares well with O2, Orange and Tesco Mobile.

Orange reportedly took the month of December to shift a similar amount of Apple smartphones, which Vodafone managed in a week or so.

"The demand from both consumer and business customers has been phenomenal. They want an outstanding phone on an outstanding network and we're delivering that." a somewhat happy Guy Laurence, Vodafone CEO, said.

Prices for the Apple iPhone on Vodafone start from £30 per month, rising to £75 per month depending on the plan. Full pricing details can be found here.
