Opera Mini use surges 11 percent

Browser used for 17.2bn page views in October

The number of mobile phone owners using Opera Mini to surf the web has increased by 11 percent since September this year.

According to Opera Software's State of the Mobile Web report for October, more than 39.6 million people used the mobile browser in October.

The browser developer also said that the number of page views in October increased to 17.2 billion, which is 238 percent up on the previous month and 14.8 percent up on the same period last year.

Russia remains the country with the most Opera mini usage, closely followed by India, China and the Ukraine. The UK is the mobile browser's sixth biggest user.

"By making the web accessible and affordable on mobile devices, we can usher in a communications revolution on an unprecedented scale," said Jon von Tetzchner, CEO, Opera.

"Opera Mini is helping to spur this change - potentially affecting the lives of billions - not just by making mobile browsing possible, but by making it affordable, as well."
