3G iPhone "demand is very high", says O2

Owners of Apple’s first-generation iPhone have been contacted by UK carrier O2 by text message, alerting them to forthcoming news on privileged upgrade opportunities.

The message, sent at 4.28pm on July 1, reads:

“O2: Apple iPhone 3G lands 11/07. We will text you shortly before with order details. As demand is very high, orders will be on a first come first served basis.”

Interest is booming in the second-generation of Apple’s touchscreen smartphone, which has added enterprise and business functionality as well as 3G data speeds and GPS capabilities.
