500,000 Brits access Facebook on their mobile

Mobile access to social-networking sites increases

A new survey from Nielsen Mobile claims a quarter of Brits are using mobile phones for social networking.

The survey also identified that Facebook is the most popular social networking site for mobile phone users, with over half a million Brits accessing the site from their mobile. MySpace, Bebo and Windows Live Spaces are the next three most popular social networking sites accessed via mobile phones.

And while 21 percent of social networking addicts use mobiles to add contacts, 55 percent access the sites to send messages to friends.

Kent Ferguson, client services manager at Nielsen Mobile said: "Social networking is already a global phenomenon, and mobile could be the next big thing in the space."

"Large numbers of people are interacting with their social networking profiles while they're on the move," he added.
