Apple recycles iPods and mobiles for free

iPhone maker boosts its green credentials

Apple is offering free iPod and mobile phone recycling in the UK, and is now accepting all mobile phones, regardless of manufacturer.

Under the scheme, customers who want to safely dispose of an old iPod or mobile phone can simply fill in a form on Apple's website to receive a mailing label to print out.

The label offers free postage of the iPod(s) and/or mobile(s). Any number of iPods or phones are covered by the scheme.

Apple also offers customers returning an iPod to an Apple retail store a 10 percent discount on the price of a new iPod. (The discount deal doesn't extend to returned iPod shuffles).

The company's chain of retail outlets also offer a recycling take back scheme for old computers and monitors to customers purchasing a new Mac or display.

"Purchase any qualifying electronic equipment at an Apple Retail Store and receive free recycling of your old computer and monitor at any Apple Retail Store within 30 days, regardless of manufacturer," the company explains.

"Environmental protection is a priority for the conservation of precious natural resources and the continued health of our planet. Apple recognises its responsibility as a global citizen and is continually striving to reduce the environmental impact of the work we do and the products we create," the company says on its revamped environmental website.
