New Apple iPods coming next week?

Mac site claims inside knowledge of Apple launch

AppleInsider claims Apple is planning to launch a new range of iPods at the start of September.

The report states the information emanates from "multiple sources", and is expected to be the forum for the introduction of at least one new model of iPod.

AppleInsider also claims supply of iPods and iPod nanos is shrinking, with availability (in the US, at least) now low or non-existent at high-profile dealers, including Best Buy.

The report cites recently published images which purported to be those of a new version of the iPod nano. These images were later removed following pressure from Apple’s legal team. They seemed to capture an iPod nano capable of displaying video.

Rumours that the next generation iPod would offer a full-size touchscreen, a la the iPhone, also get a mention.

The report finishes with speculation that September 5 may also see Apple unleash a television and film download service outside the US during the special event.

Apple does not comment on rumour or speculation.
