Acer to release laptop with swivel screen

Touchscreen folds down into tablet PC

Acer showed off two of its newest products on Friday, and said they'd be on global markets soon.

The Acer Aspire 1820PT, a small, thin laptop with an 11.6-inch touchscreen that can swivel and fold down over the keyboard to allow it to be used as a tablet PC, will cost between $600 and $700 (£365 and £430) and be out in time for Christmas, an Acer representative said.

The light laptop can be used for as long as 8 hours before needing a recharge, according to Acer. It has an Intel Core 2 Duo ultra low voltage microprocessor inside and uses Windows 7.

Acer's new Liquid smartphone, which uses Google's Android mobile operating system, will be available around the end of November, a company spokeswoman said.

The Taiwanese PC vendor said earlier this month that the 3.5-inch touchscreen device uses a Qualcomm 8250 Snapdragon chipset with a 768MHz processing core.

Liquid uses version 1.6 of Google's Android mobile operating system. It is 115 millimeters long, 62.5mm wide and 12.5mm thick, and has a 5-megapixel camera on board.
