Report: Apple planning £500 MacBook

Analyst predicts low-cost laptop on the way

Apple is planning to add a low-cost MacBook to its laptop line, according to Piper Jaffray.

The investment bank says Apple plans to introduce a laptop that costs under $1,000 - so under £500 – which features a 13in screen, as does the current MacBook.

Analyst Gene Munster told AppleInsider he believes there's an 80 percent chance Apple will introduce such products, and speculates the MacBook Pro could also see a price cut.

"Specifically, Apple may re-enter the $999 price point (currently $1099) with the MacBook, or test the $1,799 price point with the MacBook Pro (currently $1999)," he said.
