Lenovo ThinkPads given 3G as standard

Deal with Vodafone gives customers 30 days free

Lenovo is adding 3G connectivity as a standard feature in its ThinkPad laptop range, and insists the inclusion of built-in 3G modules from Ericsson won't have a major impact on the price of the systems.

Vodafone is offering buyers of Lenovo's ThinkPad T and X laptops a free 30-day trial of its mobile broadband service before requiring them to opt-in to continue to receive it. Those who sign up to the full contract will pay around £12 per month, with automatic roaming in Europe at £8.50 a day.

"It's a real free trial, with no commitment," Alec Howard, head of PC connectivity at Vodafone, told PC Advisor's sister title Techworld. "The connection manager will ask for your name and email, but no bank details."

Vodafone offers one of the fastest mobile broadband networks in major UK cities. We reviewed the company’s USB Modem Stick – which supports HSDPA networks - earlier this year, and achieved speeds between 1.8Mbps and 2.2Mbps in central London.
