10in Eee PC to hit UK on July 1st

Asus to release two models next month

Asus has revealed that the first Eee PCs powered by Intel's Atom processor will be available in the UK on July 1.

The Eee PC 901 and Eee PC 1000, on show at the Computex exhibition in Taipei last week, are just two of a number of products launching over the next few weeks to feature the low-power Atom processor, which promises to extend the battery life of mini laptops and mobile internet devices (MIDs).

Like the Eee PC 900, the Eee PC 901 features an 8.9in screen and ships with either Linux or Windows XP. The Linux model ships with a 20GB hard drive, while the XP version offers 12GB. Both models will be available for £319.

The Eee PC 1000 is also available with both OSes, but has a 10in (1024 x 600) display. The Linux version offers 40GB storage, while the XP model has an 80GB drive. All four configurations also include a 1.3-megapixel webcam, 1GB DDR2 RAM, 3 USB 2.0 ports and 802.11n Wi-Fi. UK pricing for the Eee PC 1000 has yet to be announced.

Asus said it has sold more than 1 million Eee PCs since the official launch in October 2007.
