Pegatron to launch 10in touchscreen netbook

Low-power laptop to run on Freescale chip

Pegatron will show a netbook with a 10in touchscreen display at Computex this week, an industry source revealed today.

The netbook runs chips from Freescale Semiconductor that contain ARM processing cores.

Google's Android software runs on ARM processors, but the person did not say whether the netbook will host Android software on board. There are a number of operating systems available for ARM-based netbooks, including Ubuntu Linux and Microsoft Windows Mobile, in addition to Android.

Several Taiwanese companies will show off netbooks with ARM central processors inside at Computex this week. Many people expect to see some netbooks with Android software on board at the show, but there have been no official announcements yet.

Pegatron is the former contract manufacturing arm of Asus.
